Budget alters Capital Gains Tax position in relation to family homes on divorce

The Budget has made changes to the capital gains tax rules with effect from 6 April 2014 relating to properties which have been a main residence but are no longer occupied as such, reports Family Law Week.

This is particularly relevant to divorced or separated couples who own a home jointly and one party has moved out.

For more details of this and other changes affecting divorcing couples, including in relation to pension rules, see Family Law Week's Budget Briefing.
