"I would like to let you know that I found your website so invaluable in my divorce process. I am having to represent myself due to lack of finances and I know for a fact I wouldn't have been able to do it had it not been for your fantastic website. I would recommend it to anyone who find themselves in a similar situation to me." Madeleine

About Intelligent Divorce

We're here to help you reduce the legal costs of sorting out your finances on divorce

Download our factsheet here
Our unique, online process gets you specialist legal opinion on how to divide your home, savings, pensions, shares and other assets - without the costs of following the usual solicitor-led route.

Using our service you will get advice from specialist family lawyers at the points when you need it - but not pay for them to do information gathering and checking you can do yourself with our help.

What makes us different?

  • You get a balanced legal opinion from an experienced family barrister. Armed with that advice you and your partner can agree a sensible split, along the lines a judge would decide, without the anguish and costs of going to court.
  • Your agreement is backed by a thorough check of what you both own which means that the barrister can provide well-informed legal opinion.
  • The whole process can be managed online so you can come to an agreement even if you do not want to speak to your partner.
  • You manage the process. Instead of fretting about what your solicitor is doing you can get on with doing it yourself.

How much does it cost?

The costs for each of you on the co-operative service - including the barrister's opinion, consent order and management of your divorce paperwork - is just £499 plus VAT (£598.80 in total).

Of course you can split this total cost of £998 plus VAT (£1,197.60 in total) as you wish between you.

If you use Intelligent Divorce on your own (the solo service) the cost is £599 plus VAT (£718.80 in total).

Who we are

Intelligent Divorce is the brainchild of two of the country's most respected family lawyers, Mahie Abey and James Roberts.

Abey is a partner and Head of Family Law at Dawson Hart solicitors in East Sussex and specialises in matrimonial finance (i.e. splitting finances on divorce). He is recommended by Chambers and Partners as one of the leading family solicitors in the South of England. He is a member of Resolution and a trained mediator and collaborative lawyer. He is Chair of the Governors of Firle CE Primary School and a Trustee of Wealden Citizens' Advice Bureau.

James is a family law barrister practising at 1 King's Bench Walk in London who specialises in matrimonial finance. He is recommended in Chambers and Partners and the Legal 500 as one of the best barristers practising in this field at present. He is Treasurer of the Family Law Bar Association and sits as a Recorder (part time Judge).

James and Abey are both closely involved in the day to day running of the site, and oversee the legal aspects of each each case. They are supported by a team with long experience of working within the family law sector, headed by Melissa Chapman.

All the legal opinions are provided by expert family barristers at 1 King's Bench Walk, one of the country's top chambers. Consent orders are drafted by experienced family solicitors - not paralegals or legal executives.
We're here to help you divorce intelligently - in an affordable way that not only does not compromise on quality but in fact provides you with legal advice of a calibre you'd be unlikely to be able to afford in a traditional solicitor-led divorce.
